2:50 p.m.: What the critics are saying about ABC's bird-flu movie. Some say that ABC's TV movie "Fatal Contact: Bird Flu in America," which airs tonight, is good because it makes the public aware of a viable threat. Others say it goes too far. Read a handful of reviews. Plus, see the HHS viewer's guide for the movie that ABC posted on its Web site.

2:35 p.m.: Sadia SA, Brazil's largest meatpacker, reported that its chicken export volume fell 2.5% in the first quarter from a year earlier, and pork exports dropped 34%, as a result of bird flu in the company's primary markets and Russia's ban on Brazilian pork and chicken meat due to foot-and-mouth disease in two states. Russia is Sadia's No. 1 importer of chicken and pork.

10:40 a.m.: The U.S. Agency for International Development said it has issued a $320,000 grant to Albania to help the country detect and respond to bird flu.USAID also plans to fund $200,000 worth of projects including lab equipment, protective clothing, and disinfectant materials for health and veterinary authorities, the agency said. Albania detected two cases of H5N1 in March.

9:20 a.m.: Expert at a bird-flu awareness seminar in Pakistan said that bird flu has "nothing to do with humans" and that "not a single person has died from the H5N1 influenza across the world so far," Kilian Crawford points out in his H5N1 blog. Worse yet, Crawford writes, is the fact that Pakistani media including the Daily Times and the Dawn reported it. H5N1 only recently emerged in Pakistan and, so far, no humans have been infected, but they have in other countries where bird flu has been around longer.

6:15 a.m.: Fast-food chicken chain El Pollo Loco Holdings filed for an initial public offering of stock later this year. Among the risks facing El Pollo Loco, the chain warned, is the possible spread of bird flu, which could increase prices for limited poultry supplies and reduce customer demand.
